RIPTIDE ROAD TRIP

June 26th, 2009

Earlier this year I started a little internet project with Riptide Magazine called the Riptide Road Trips, The concept was initiated for the formation of the new riptidemag.com.au as a way to unearth and expose the members of different bodyboarding teams in waves that you’d find yourself if you were to pack the boards and tent in the car and scour the coastline. It was a fun little trip, keen to get some more going….

HHHMMM

June 25th, 2009

Today I saw a film scanner for sale in a catalog that came in the mail, kinda weird…haven’t seen one of them advertised for ages!. Anyway got me thinking how much more rewarding getting a shot published used to be. I think I might have to go and get me one!

June 22nd, 2009

Well I have been sitting on these shots for the last six months hoping someone might want them but I’ve given up on them. The first two are both of Backdoor in Hawaii from Feb this year and the last two are both Clay Marzo from March this year. if you click on the shots of Clay you can see the whole sequences.

THE FUTURE

June 19th, 2009

As you’ve probably seen in that latest Riptide Mag a small bunch of photographers were briefed to create an image we thought showed the future of bodyboarding. Basically I thought the future of our sport was the younger up and coming guys, because without them the sport will obviously be going no where…as for the whole ball pit idea I figured that the image needed to be something you’d never see in a bodyboarding magazine and something that showed the spirit of being a kid and I don’t know about you but being a kid and playing in those massive indoor playgrounds was amazing ha-ha! I love those things!

During the shoot we had a heap of sick images but when it came down to it only one could get used so below are some “exclusive” shots from the session. I’m really stoked on how these came out…would love to hear what you guys think of them.

The shot as seen in the magazine.

WALSHY AD

June 19th, 2009

Pretty stoked on this. From what I can remember I have never had a stand up surfing advertisement published before, so this is a first. Below is the shot as seen in Waves Magazine and the original.

MAY RECAP.

June 15th, 2009

I didn’t actually think it would this hard to keep this blog up to date but yeah its kinda hard. Anyway I thought a good way to fill some space would just to be a photographic recap of the month of May. We had some pretty sick and consistent waves here on the Gold Coast and we finally got to surf and shoot the GBR which by the looks of things is lining up to run in the next issue of Riptide. Other than that not much else happened, I just shot some photo’s for ads and a couple of early morning mini wave sessions. I also took a rather big leap into the dark and applied for the Army Reserve and by the looks of things I will be enlisting within the next 12 months….that’s pretty exciting for me, I think it will be a great opportunity for me to expand my photography into some different fields. Hope you like the images below!

CLEARING THE HARDRIVES

June 11th, 2009

Took a big and long overdue step today of getting myself a backup hard drive. I had 250GB of photo and design files on one of my computers which I had never backed up but thankfully it’s all done now. I ended up deleting a heap of old shots. Below are four shots that got the chop…Jake Stone, Cade Sharp, Shark Island and Mike Stewart all went to the trash.

WINTERS MORNING

June 8th, 2009

How good are they? Everything seems so clean and nice haha. Well I got up real early to go and shoot these shots, went down and shot them without my housing which seemed fine at the time but looking back on it was probably pretty dumb!, oh well no damage so all good. I have processed these a couple of different ways, not too sure if I like any of them but it was better than just sleeping in again.
